After the fun fun fun of Rock do and the loveu err loveu of the village BBQ the next day what better way is there to relax than a visit to an all you can eat resturarant? Yakitori means grilled chicken or bird but its also the usual name for things on a stick like meat, fish or veg I'm not an expert on the subject (well I can eat things which does make me somewhat of a fancy pants) so forgive me when I say I think its traditional Japanese food, you can see examples of it live! or at least filmed! here for more info or at least if you want to get hungry.
Anyway we took our B.O.E supervisor out for dinner to say thanks for all the hard work he does dealing with our many many oohhh so many complaints, after the 10 or 12 of us sat down we ordered what we thought was enough to get going, 3 of one thing 3 of another just a few bits, until that is the waitress told us we should probably order a few more things as we are ordering individual sticks. Oh how foolish we were, so we upped the anti somewhat by ordering double on everything and then basically going through the menu. Well after a little salad the first few plates were small with four or five sticks on them, but after a while they started bringing out huge plates with 20 -25 sticks with things like chicken, chicken skin, chicken bits, meat balls, whole shrimp, squid, liver, cheese, bacon and cheese, bacon and asparagus. More and more started arriving for another hour. Now I don't know about you but 20 meatballs is my limit so adding whole shrimps, chicken livers, and various cheeses brings on the meat sweats. We did manage to consume most of what was brought out but laying around like ticks after a feeding does not make you feel good I can tell you. Whats worse is that we apparently had to finish the entire plate off so each of us had to take 2 more sticks and begin to find cunning ways to hid them, under the partial remains of a salad we had ordered first (when we didn't know better) under the remains of the edamame pods we had foolishly stuffed ourselves on, tucked under shrimp remains and buried under sauce, the horror, the horror.
In the end we counted almost 400 sticks of Yakitori had been eaten and that's not including the side dishes.
