Friday night saw our leaving enkai. Most of which consisted of the two finer things in life; eating copious amounts of food and drinking till your centre of balance changes.
As it was a solemn occasion (see earlier posts) I was expecting a quiet affair, I wasn't expecting virtually every teacher at school to, almost, constantly pour never ending amounts of sake for the leaving teachers. Oh and it was my job to lead the leaving teachers in a march around the room, a feat which I think I managed to mess up pretty well (twice).
Events of the evening...
Watching several of my teachers faces go very, very red
realising that my own face had gone as equally very very red.
One teacher collapsing in a drunken/sad heap during the final speeches.
During the second party (second parties are well known as even more of drunken affairs) One female teacher nudged me in the ribs and said of a passing waitress "she is very sexy yes?" Now I'm quite a modest guy and when one of my friends might do that I get a little embarrassed but to have a Japanese teacher do that is just plain... well weird.
Funniest conversation of the evening.
Being asked how many children I had by one of the P.E teachers I then asked him the same question, he answered ( in broken English) I have 1 boy and 2 girls and then said because he "has morning stand" I didn't really continue the conversation much after that as what else could you say?

Its Overah.
well today's the last day at school for many teachers, who are easy to spot as they're the ones wearing the suit. As I mentioned before we've got a huge number leaving this year and most of whom I get on with very well.
Even the P.E teachers...
So its a little sad to see them go, although I wasn't quite expecting the amount of tears the first years were shedding over their leaving teachers, although my attempt at saying excuse me in Japanese did provoke a bit of laughter DOH!Even the P.E teachers...
Anyway tonight sees the retunr of the mighty ENKAI!
whats that I, don't, hear you say...Well basically an Enkai is a school party, however enkais are generally held in fancy pants places and are usually all you can drink.. actually I've been to one which was all of you WILL drink.
Japan is a land where the all you can... is worshipped like a neon light Deity, all you can eat, all you can drink all you can do. I went to one on my first year which was all you can beef (but I can't about that without being reminded of beef sweats) and that isn't a nice thing.
oh and the other good thing about enkai; what happens on an enkai, stays on an enkai. During a weekend version I somehow got persuaded to enter the room we were all staying at, riding one of the teachers who was wearing a horses mask (hmm maybe I shouldn't mention that one) Although I don't think anything beats my fantastic principle turning to me and my other half and exclaiming " I need a shit!"
Anyway from the determined looks on the teachers faces I think drinking is in big demand tonight.
And I presume its not going to be the light beer kind.
This article explains it better than I can. Although any questions please ask.
