Well last night found myself passing massed groups staggering singing and wearing these (well looking less like a gym obsessed Stephen Tompkinson who's clearly repeating the line "six years at Rada, remember the money think about the money...") Actually more like these, oh yes it must be Saint Patrick's day, a day when the world can unite as one and pretend/claim to be Irish, usually through the consumption of Guinness or err cough medicine?
Its also about this time that hot cross buns come out to be consumed (dunked in Guinness???) obviously for different reasons; now hot cross buns are one of the many foods I remember my mum giving me when I was younger to be eaten whilst watching Knightmare(oh dear team!) but my very nice mum gave ours a rather nice sweet twist.
This should be enough for 2 people.
2 hot crossed buns (pre bought or made yourself)
1 banana - sliced
the juice of one orange
1 to 2 teaspoons of Castor sugar
Enough margarine to spread on the buns
First cut the buns in half, very lightly toast under a grill.
Spread the marge over the buns then add the sliced banana.
Pour the orange juice over the buns ensuring that they are well covered (any parts that aren't might burn).
Sprinkle the sugar over the top.
Place back under the grill until the sugar begins to melt and the buns are well toasted (but not burnt)
Enjoy.
Right off to scour the streets in my new giant hat, only 364 days early.
