Obviously this posting contains plot elements about the latest episode, high light it to see the text. Just beware, SPOILERS AHEAD..
Well this episode seems on the surface to be about Ben, his life on the island and in particular how his plans have started slipping away, and his attempts to bring everything back together. But as this is lost there's also a whooole host of other things going on.
First Richard, heavy eyeshadow wearer and apparently a "hostile" who hasn't aged for at least 15 to maybe 30 years! Suggesting that natives on the island age very very slowly if at all. We know the island has super healing abilities but now it appears anti aging ones aswell.
oh and I am presuming he's one of the natives, which may explain why he took offence when Ben called him a hostile as to the natives surely the Dharma group are the hostiles. I'm wondering if he is a native does he have four toes? And if so exactly how are they going to work that into the plot.
The Purge by ben and the hostiles blow away anythoughts I had that the Dharma group were genetically experimenting and their experiements got loose. It produces the question of why the Dharma group are still operating in the outisde world, Was Mikhail part of Bens plan and thats why hes still alive (he did talk about the purge) why are the food drops still occuring. I wonder if Ben and the hostiles asumed the roles of the Dharma group on the island and arranged everything from there hmmmmm DAMN QUESTIONS!!!
Jacob. Yeah this is the big one. Who is Jacob becomes What is Jacob.
When Ben started to talk to the empty chair I thought "actually maybe he really is just crazy" but when John heard that creepy creepy voice calling for help and everthing that followed wow I still have no idea what was going on.
I saw one posting on the TVgasm site suggesting the quick image of Jacob was identical (with extra hair) to Locke, personally I thought he looked like Jacks dad for one second his apparent invisibility and abilities have made me wonder if......
A) He might be part of the smoke monster thingy, what if that's how he manifests himself outside of the shack. which appeared to be surrounded by powder, was it gun powder, ash, mud or salt?
B) Jacob is actually the visions that people see, particually the dead walking around (oh side note I might be wrong but haven't all the visions been of people who died off the island? please tell me if Im wrong) I always assumed it might be the smoke monster doing it as it has been shown to read peoples minds buuuut maybe if it is seperate from Jacob what if ithe monster really is a sercurity device only hmmm what is it protecting or rather guarding??
This leads onto another thought, Jacobs list. If memory serves correct the names on the list have come and gone but I thought jack, kate, Hurley and Sawyer were mentioned as special, and arent these people ones who have had visions? Walt was also thought of as special (although his powers seem more obvious)
Is Jacob looking for a new special one to replace him?
Is Jacob trapped on the island but able to control events in the outside world or is he a representation of the island itself.
There's one other theory which I'm not a fan off, but what if Jacob is actually imprisoned or hiding on the island! There's certianly be biblical references throughout, what if Jacob is supernatural in origin (I don't like saying it but what if he's a demon?!) It would explain why the island can't be found (Ben said God can't see this place) and why there seems to be so much judging and menitons of being special or gifted. hmmm
somethings I do know.
Locke will be back, we've already seen the islands healing properties surely a stomach wound will heal in time. If not and he really reallly reallllly is dead then maybe a spectral visit ohhhhI amd the spirit of john locke woooooooooooooooooo
I will watch next weeks show.
